Registration message

Comic narratives often express messages or provide brief glances of events or stories. Key elements of comic art include character, setting, and clear, concise storytelling — all conveyed in a few frames through a combination of pictures, captions, lettering, and dialogue. Due to its condensed format, comic art highlights only the most important elements of a targeted topic.

In this course, students will:

Analyze comics to identify characters, setting, and dialogue,

Create or reconstruct a sequence of events from the story,

Organize ideas about how to combine pictures, captions, and dialogue to illustrate a specific event or express a message,

and, Develop comics to depict story-related or self-created events, convey a message, or express interesting information.

Students will learn:

Fundamentals of the art form,

Tools and materials of the trade —pencils, kneaded erasers,

Rollerball ink pens, brushes, india ink, paper (preferably Bristol Board),

and Cartoon anatomy and backgrounds.

Students will be encouraged to develop: Innovation and exploration, Independent study, Their own style, and Collaborative projects with other students.
