This online Zoom class, recommended for teens and adults, is geared for people who have never knitted before. They will learn the very basics, such as the knit and purl stitch, garter vs stockinette stitch, increasing and decreasing, changing color and casting on and binding off. Students will come out of the class with a striped scarf and a ribbed hat, as well as how to read patterns and seam up their knitting. In addition, we will have discussions about online resources and fiber communities like ravelry.com. They will also get an overview of different kinds of yarn (different weight, different fiber content) and different kinds of needles (straight vs circular, bamboo vs metal, etc.). Two hours a week for six weeks offers adequate time to cover content and to allow plenty of practice and assistance. For people who catch on quickly, knitting in the round, lace, color-work and cable techniques can also be explored.

A ZOOM account is required to attend class virtually.

This course, for teens and adults, introduces color and composition as they pertain to abstract work. Students explore formal elements such as shape, value, color, mark making and surface with paint and collage materials. Through their work with abstract concepts students investigate the 2-dimensional picture plane and compositional structures.

Students will learn the fundamentals of painting while using the abstract language and will be working from observation and non-objectively.

This course will be broken up into three units surveying three major forms of abstraction: objective, non-objective gestural, and hard edge. At the end of the course students will be able to solve introductory painting problems such as color mixing, creation of space and form. They will also learn how composition and design are relevant to painting while using the abstract language.

There is an artist in all of us! If you agree with Picasso and like to experiment with art supplies, then this class is for you. Young art students will be inspired by using a variety of materials and mediums such as acrylic paint, tempera, oil pastels, dry pastels, ink. They will have the freedom to apply new techniques, try different styles, and to think outside the box. We will explore the process of painting, drawing and printmaking. We will have fun achieving textures and effects on interesting surfaces. Children will delve into this creative mind set with enthusiasm and leave with unique artwork and a happy heart! All material fees are included. Recommended for ages 8 - 12.
